Another first for me, picture of Blue Heron's at one of our local Rookeries!
The rookery is in a large open space next to a park and ride.
When we first got there they were flying left and right over us in the parking lot,
I couldn't contain my excitement and I think my squeeling and screeching scared them away.
They started mostly flying to the outside of the treeline so if was tough to get pictures.
This was one of my first shots,
they just walk around on top of the branches and collect sticks to take back to the next.
Very tough to get good pictures when you're jumping up and down.
I'm very happy I got a few decent ones.
You can bet I'll be going back.
Probably every weekend while they are nesting!
I'll contain my excitement and hopefully get some even better shots.

Fantastic shots Kristi!!!! That looks like so much fun!!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice series of photos at the rookery!
ReplyDeleteWow, Kristi! These are beautiful birds! I especially like the in-flight photos! I've never seen a heron in a tree!
ReplyDeleteWonderful to see
ReplyDeleteHeron rookeries always look so crowded to me. I guess that's the way the birds like it! I especially like the photo of the heron flying with the piece of stick in its beak.
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful to see! Fascinating birds!! :)
ReplyDeleteNice shots Kristi, that looks like a phenomenal rookery, can't wait to see more splendid shots!
ReplyDeleteHi Kristi,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots of the herons. I would have been excited too, but to the point that I would have forgotten that I had a camera. Looking forward to seeing more pictures.

fortunate to be so close underneath...great view
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures (esp. when you were jumping up and down in excitement ;>)...which I understand perfectly! Isn't it amazing to see those big old birds perching on those thin branches. I hope you get to watch the rookery until the babies fledge...amazing sight.
ReplyDeleteHeck...your pics are fantastic. What a great series.:-D)
ReplyDeleteI'd be excited too! Wonderful shots of the nesting activity.
ReplyDeleteHi there - nice set of shots - I used to live near a heron rookery - rather smelly as I recall!

Those are AWESOME pictures! There was a bald eagle in my backyard last year...I totally freaked out, so I can certainly relate to your exciteness! I only wish I had a camera on me that day....
ReplyDeleteI can really understand your excitement,- I have recently started to get interested in photographing birds in my area and I'm like a little kid every time I take a fairly good picture:)
ReplyDeleteYour shots of the blue heron are really great. Love the one in the air!
:)
i'm so jealous you get to see them nesting! we have them here at our pond, but i've yet to see a nest. i guess our trees are just too dense!
ReplyDeleteWow,you got nice shots. Now I`ll have to take a trip locally to see if I can get a picture. They nest so far back off the road & the land has no trespassing signs,so I can never get that close.Wonderful,thank-you for sharing.phyllis
ReplyDeleteThese are great shots of the Great Blue Heron rookery Kristi! The front on shot of the heron in the tree and the one directly overhead are my favorites. I can't wait to see more of the nest building shots and then, of course, the photos of the nestlings when they hatch!
