For My Reading Pleasure

I'm getting ready for some down time, having foot surgery next week. With that in mind I'm stocking up on loads of reading material. I've got lots of magazine back issues piled up and I just ordered some new books.

I'll also be moving lots of my jewelry making goodies out to the living room and making my very own "couch studio". I'll share pictures of that when it's set up.

Here are the books I'll be receiving, I'd love to hear comments about them!!

Special order Vintage Drop Pendant

After a rather trying week of health issues and car break downs I finally managed to get this special order pendant made for my very patient buyer.

It is a variation on a pair of earrings I have listed on Etsy I call Vintage Drops

I took the texture out just a little further to make the pendant bigger than the earrings and give it a lovely scalloped edge I really like.

She requested that it not be domed like the earrings and also that it have a fairly substantial bail so that it could be put on a large variety of necklaces and wires. With such a large bail to play with I decided to string it on a random assortment of bead strands that struck my fancy on this gorgeous day.

Here it is on a very neutral set of Jasper rounds.

Here I've strung a beautiful set of Faceted Mookaite through the bail.

Then I went for beautiful Green Turquoise rounds.

And last but not least colorful Faceted Poppy Jasper rounds.

I had fun photograghing this piece and I hope it's new owner is happy with it.

PS, the pendant arrived safely to it's new home, here's what it's new owner had to say.
"I LOVE IT! Actually, I have it on as we speak, and it is perfect! Looks veryglobal-chic...just the style I look for and wear. Thanks so much for making it and modifying it. I'll keep checking your listings!"

Thrift Store Treasures

I've really been a fan of Thrift Store shopping for the last few years and lately I've been checking out the Jewelry section more than ever and finding some great stuff.

I buy the items with the intention of taking them apart to re-use particular bits and pieces, I must admit some of the pieces are so cool I'll have a tough time not leaving them as they are. I wish I could use some of the beads off of them without ruining them, guess I have choices to make.

Love this one, look at that carved tube in the center, maybe Bone, lots of other different shaped bone beads and what looks like Red Sponge Coral and lots of other goodies. That little Crochet piece at the top with the heart is so cute. I know I'll never wear it but this is one I'll have some trouble taking apart, but I'd sure love to use all those componants again!!!!

Bone? Tone of little bone beads in different shapes and sizes and these focals are awesome. I assume they are bone but could they be ivory, does anybody know how to tell the difference. All these parts are definitely going to be re-used, I like the necklace as is but not enough to keep it together.

Here's another mystery stone front and back. I think the back may make it easier to figure out what it is? Anybody have a guess? Rhodocrosite or something like that maybe? The carving is so pretty and on such a pretty stone, only hanging on a cord so you'll definitely see this one again!

This is a piece I had a difficult time deciding to buy. I couldn't tell what those swirly beads were, since I bought it I've been told they are lucite and I think that's right. I'll absolutely take this one apart, the pendant isn't my favorite!

I bought one similar to this before at another thrift store and gave it as a gift. I'm told the tubes are bamboo burnt on the ends, really cool.

Here's a closer look, look at that wire work!!!

And even closer. I can't really use the components on this one so it will probably go home with a friend one day.

Hope you enjoyed it, I'm always looking for new stores to search and try to go to the known stores fairly regularly so I'll post some more finds in a future blog I'm sure.

I found one!!

I really never expected to find one but I kept looking anyway. I've been scouring Craigslist for Printers Drawers and I found 4 a couple of weeks ago. I kept looking for a cabinet so my lovely husband wouldn't have to make me one. I decided to check out ebay, even though I thought shipping would be terribly expensive for something like this and the chances of finding one locally were somewhat slim. But I FOUND ONE!!! A Cabinet AND 11 more drawers!!!

It's in Portland, not just around the corner from me up north of Seattle, but a reasonable distance for a pick up. So were're taking a road trip tomorrow to Portland to pick up my amazing cabinet. Some may think it's not that pretty but I think it is. I'll give it a little polish and it will be fabulous!!!

So now I have 4 stand alone drawers, if I can't find a use for them maybe I'll gift them to some lovely jewelry friend, of which I am lucky to have many!
