Art Bead Scene October Monthly Challenge

First I'll say I can officially start putting weight on my foot. I'll tell you more later in this post, along with pictures. For those who want to know what I'm referring to you can check out this previous blog post.

I mainly want to talk about the October Monthly Challenge on the Art Bead Scene blog. I've been thinking about it all month and I finally found the last few beads I needed to put the piece together. Don't have much time so I hope to finish it tomorrow if not today.

Here are the beads I'll be using.

Now if you don't like medical stuff go no further, nothing really horrible, just a picture of my foot with a monster screw in it. Now my left and right foot have matching bolts!! And no they do not set off the metal detector at the airport lol.

Now it's time to ditch my awesome knee scooter and get to crutches. After about 4-5 days I'll get rid of the crutches. I'll still be wearing the big black boot for a few more weeks.

Stu Stu Studio part 3

We have decided to go to the next level with my new Studio. We decided that I would be very unhappy in the long run having a very high pile wall to wall carpet in my studio. So....before we paint and put all the furniture in and finish we completely emptied it out and took out the carpet and purchased laminate flooring.

So guess what we'll be doing this weekend...well since I can't walk yet I won't be much help. My wonderful husband will be installing flooring in my new room. If all goes well the room will have a new floor and maybe even have the furniture put in by the end of the weekend. Then I get the fun job of moving all my stuff from old room to new room. VERY EXCITED!!

Room emptied of furniture with wall to wall carpet.

Carpet being removed!

Pile of new flooring, sqeeeeeee!!!!

Here's my post for Stu Stu Studio part 2 if you'd like to take a look.

Stu Stu Studio part 2

In my last post, among other things, I talked about and showed pictures of my future studio. Yesterday my accent wall got painted, I wasn't sure I was gonna like it but I really do!!

It's getting really tough not being able to walk, I would like to participate more in making over this room but since I can't stand or walk, I can't really paint and I really can't move furniture around, which is where we are right now. It'll be challenging but I have to attempt to pack up stuff out of the shelving unit in my existing studio so we can move it to the new room. My husband wants it to be done by next weekend...eeeeek!!

So, below is the new blue accent wall!!!!

And below is the maroon accent wall being taped off in preparation for primer, the blue makes a huge difference in the brightness of the room!!

Lovely Day

Other than the fact I'm approaching my last weekend of down time, it's back to work on Monday, just shy of 3 weeks after my surgery. I still can't walk but I'll roll around the office on my knee cart as best I can, probably half time for a week or so until I can begin to walk again.

But today is a lovely day because of a couple of wonderful things. My husband is working in my new studio as we speak, repairing the walls in preparation for painting. Hopefully it will be somewhat ready for me to start moving in/using by the time I can walk again.

Here is a very bad photo of what it looked like a few days ago. The couch, chair and possibly armoire will all be moved in to other rooms. All the cabinets will stay, I'll have tons of work and storage space and even space for friends to come over and play.

Above is a piece that was in our living room when we moved in to this house a little over a year ago and we moved it in to my studio, this is how it looked when we moved it the first time. Now it will be moved (for the last time) in to my new studio.
Last but not least!!!!!

I am featured in a wonderful blog!!!!! Happy Mango Beads is one of my favorite places to purchase beads. They have a fantastic selection and tons of amazing beads that fit my style to a T! Thank you Happy Mango for your awesome selection, service and support of your customers, we appreciate you!

Michael's Reader Challenge...complete!!

I'm so happy to have completed this challenge and it was quite a challenge!! I'm so excited to post my finished piece and see what everybody else has come up with. I was hoping to make earrings but things have been so crazy I haven't been able to finish a pair.

Got all the beads listed other than the black cinnabar which they didn't have, brown either. I accidently got pink freshwater pear rather than white, didn't realize until I got home and couldn't go back. I added beautiful smooth carnelian barrels and tiny brass spacers.

The white chain was my biggest challenge, I've been playing with that right up until the last minute and think I figured it out to my satisfaction. I really wanted to post this last night but I'm glad I didn't because I'm really glad I made the last minute changes, then I just had to wait for the light this morning to take new pictures.

Thanks to all who participated and to Lorelei for letting us all join in the fun. Take a look at all the other works of art created, each one really quite different than the next, it's amazing.

Cabin Fever...I think maybe so

I think Cabin fever has set in, day 11 after surgery. I'm enjoying looking at all the marks made in my carpet as I roll around on my knee cart. I think maybe this is the first time you've seen somebody's carpet posted on their blog? Huh..am I right? Pictures don't do it justice lol.

Rolly rolly rolly!!

A busy intersection, I apprarently go lots of different direction at here.

Vroom Vroom...

My work tray with all the beads and some extras, I'm using for the Michael's Challenge on Lorelei's Blog
I realized when I got home from Michaels that instead of white freshwater pearls I got pale pink, I couldn't go back so I had to use them. Couldn't fine either brown or black round cinnibar rounds.
The necklace is made and waiting to be posted with everybody elses on the 17th. I'm going to try to make earrings and maybe a bracelet using the same beads.

Ta for now!

Carnelian Jewelery

To go with the Arrowhead Necklace I blogged about yesterday I made earrings with the same Carnelian and Ryolite beads. I'm sharing them here today along with a few other pieces of jewelry that include Carnelian made by the EMC Team (Etsy Metal Clay).

Arrowhead Necklace

My first attempt at making jewelry since having foot surgery. It took me most of the day working in short 10-15 minute bits, then elevating my foot so it won't swell.

It's actually a re-structuring of a necklace I made last year, but I turned up the volume quite a bit I think by adding beautiful Carved Carnelian Barrel beads I purchased at the NW Bead Bazaar last weekend and little brass spacers between each Ryolite Heishi giving it much more fluidity of movement.

I can't tackle the stairs so was unable to use my favorite area to take photos which is my greenhouse, so I had to set something up by a window and hope for the best.

I love this shot because the light hit the Carnelian just right and looks like they have light coming from within.

I also added 2 Unikite rounds to hold the pendant centered along the Heishi. I think the colors of these 3 stones play very nicely together.

Here are the Carnelian Earrings I made to coordinate.

Feels good to play with beads again!!

Couch Studio and so much more!

As promised, here are some pictures of my Couch Studio that has actually expanded in to much more.
Here's the view from my perch.

Here's 2 rolling carts filled with beads, wire and tools. I'm not able to use them quite yet but within a few days I hope to take advantage of them. There is also some yarn , crochet hooks and a and a pattern for fingerless gloves. I haven't crocheted in years but hope to start again.

A drawer filled mostly with neutral beads, browns and bone beads.

This drawer is primarily red, sponge coral, glass and jasper etc.

And of course Turquoise, lots of different shapes and sizes of Turquoise beads and Turquoise colored wood, copper and limestone beads.

My communications center, my computer and tons of books and magazines.

My wonderful knee scooter, gives me what little freedom of movement I am capable of until I can begin to put weight on my foot, probably about 30 days.

My new and improved foot, with Ginger at my side.

This is Nurse Ginger, watchin over mom!

And Nurse Shasta, hard at work getting her belly petted. They are wonderful company and protect and entertain me.
I hope you've enjoyed my little bit of silliness. Blame it on the pain medication.
